Mocs 32- Jacksonville State 14
Jacksonville State did not plan Homecoming for their home opener, so UC co-captain Bucky Wolford, a former frosh defensive back at Jax State, planned it for them with a brilliant offensive show. He rushed for 118 yards, caught 4 passes for 64 yards, returned 3 kickoffs for 107 (including a 57-yarder), and scored a touchdown.
UC drove 85 yards for a first-quarter and Wolford scored the touchdown. A poor Gamecock punt led to another score and safety David Crow raced 20 yards with an interception for a 19-0 lead.
Outrun in offensive plays 76-63 UC used big defensive plays and an opportunist offense for the win over the "always-tough-at-home" Gamecocks.
Roger Catarino had another hot night through the air lanes as he hit 8-13 for 106 yards and a touchdown pass to wingback Harry Slyhoff, who made a leaping one-handed grab.
