Postgame Quotes
Furman 75, Chattanooga 61
Greenville, S.C. - Timmons Arena
On the free throw shooting
"You can start with free throws. We got outscored by 19 at the foul line. Part of that is that fact that Furman was more aggressive than we were. They're athletic, they were attacking, they were getting to the foul line. We got to the foul line 17 times and made six. At one point we were leading the conference in free throw percentage. I doubt that's the case now."
On turnovers and rebounding
"We have a lot of turnovers. We had 11 at halftime so we did a better job in the second half ending up with 15 for the game, but in the first half we did a lot of damage there turning it over. The boards, we got outrebounded. At our place we dominated the boards. That's the difference of the ball game. We're not getting that aspect of it done either."
On how to rejuvenate the team
"I have to do a better job, but they're going to have to decide how important it is and how hungry they are. I felt like Furman was hungrier than we were tonight. They won the battle of the boards. They just seemed a little quicker to the ball than we were and we've got to hit some shots. We shot the ball a little bit better at times today, but the second half we were 3-for-15 from the 3-point line, 20% from the 3. From the foul line in the 2nd half we were zero percent. We shot three and they shot 18. Of course a lot of that is they were a lot more aggressive than we were and then also late in the game we were fouling."
On Furman
"Hats off to them. Jackie's (Carson, head coach) done a great job. She's got them going in the right direction. (Teshia) Griswold for them great job. She can take you off the bounce and she can hit a jump shot. She's hard to defend. Transition, they hurt us some there."
On the defense of the low post (Hood, Dupree)
"Give them credit. They did a great job of doubling out low posts and we knew that coming in - We were expecting it and we were hesitant to throw it in there. That's what they want to accomplish. You take away our bread and butter - Hood had five and Dupree had six - so we got 11 points down there on the block. That's where I've got to do a better of job of helping them handle that and getting better looks."
"Like I said, we're right now not where we want to be. Some of the bench kids got talent, the young players in particular. They've got talent but they've got to do the little things. People don't notice if you don't defend a pick on the ball the correct way or transition d if you don't match up. Decision making with the ball. We've got to do a better job. I've got to do a better job. We got about 3 more weeks to clean it up and get it right."
