Joyner is closing in on the Southern Conference record

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Jasmine Joyner (Southaven, Miss.) just missed a triple-double to lead the Mocs past Bowling Green Sunday 54-49 Sunday afternoon on Day Two of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at the KFC Yum! Center.

Joyner recorded her 20^th career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, just missing a triple-feat with a school record nine blocked shots. She added in four assists and three steals in the effort while connecting on 6-of-8 from the free throw line.

She was joined in double figures by fellow senior Queen Alford (Decatur, Ga.) who was 5-of-6 from the field in 21 minutes. Freshman Lakelyn Bouldin (Spencer, Tenn.) drained a pair of 3-pointers for nine points on the day with two steals.

Chattanooga was 19-of-48 from the field (39.6%) and 6-of-19 from beyond the arc. The Falcons outrebounded UTC 39-30 with 11 offensive boards compared to the Mocs' five.

After leading by 10 points at intermission, the Mocs capped off an 11-2 run with a 3-pointer from Bouldin to lead the Falcons 41-25 with 2:44 to play in the third quarter. However, Bowling Green responded with a 16-2 run that spilled into the fourth quarter to cut the Mocs' lead to 43-41 with 8:34 to play in the game.

BGSU's Carly Santoro led the charge scoring 13 of her team's points in the run with three 3-pointers and a pair of layups. The game remained tight down the stretch with UTC never getting ahead by more than six points and the Falcons getting as close as three points twice.

Sydney Lambert hit a 3-pointer for Bowling Green with 12 seconds to play to cut the Mocs' slim lead to 52-49, but junior Chelsey Shumpert (Paducah, Ky.) drew a foul and hit both free throws to put UTC back up by five with 10 seconds to play in the game.

Santoro had a game-high 17 points and Lambert was the other Falcon in double figures with 11 points and eight rebounds. The two combined for seven of BGSU's nine 3-pointers.

The Mocs improve to 3-2 overall and will take on Louisville Monday night in the final game of the Hall of Fame Challenge. Bowling Green remains winless on the year at 0-4 and will face Lafayette in the early game.
