CLINTON, S.C. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team closed out non-conference play Friday afternoon with a 56-48 win over Presbyterian at the Templeton Center.

Jasmine Joyner (Southaven, Miss.) posted her fourth double-double of the year with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She added five blocked shots and three steals. Junior
Chelsey Shumpert (Paducah, Ky.) was 5-of-6 from the free throw line and added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Mocs got behind 18-12 early in the second quarter, but a layup from
Keiana Gilbert at the buzzer capped off a 13-6 run by the Mocs for a 25-24 halftime lead. Chattanooga continued the run into the third quarter, pushing its lead to 35-25 at the 5:35 mark of the period on a 10-1 run.

UTC led by as much as 14 with less than a minute to play in the third on a layup from senior
Queen Alford to make it 43-29. Chattanooga held the Blue Hose to just five points in the frame but they would respond with an 18-5 run to cut the Mocs' lead to 52-47 with 48 seconds to go in the contest.

Shumpert connected on all four of her free throw attempts down the stretch to hold on, ending a two-game losing skid.

Gilbert added nine points and seven rebounds and Alford had seven points, five boards and three assists.

In the paint, the Mocs held a 28-20 advantage while Presbyterian's bench outscored Chattanooga 13-2. Chattanooga had 12 assists and 16 turnovers and nine blocked shots. UTC shot 41.5 percent from the field for the game and was 4-of-17 (23.5%) from the 3-point line. The Mocs outrebounded the Blue Hose 41-26 and scored five points off 14 offensive boards.

Cortney Story led Presbyterian with 13 points, four steals and three assists. Salina Virola had nine points off the bench. Taylor Petty and Aianna Kelly each had a team-high five rebounds. The Blue Hose were 20-of-52 (38.5%) for the game, made six 3-pointers and were just 2-of-5 from the free throw line.
