NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's outdoor track and field team along with members of the men's cross country team, had several good showings on Day One of the Black and Gold Invitational at the Vanderbilt Track.
Â
Sophomore Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) posted a PR in the 5000 meter on her 21st birthday with a time of 18:18.43, finishing 16th overall in the race. Loyola (Ill.) took the top two spots in the race with Emma Hatch taking first in a time of 17:04.39
Â
"She's a blue collar runner," Chattanooga head coach Bill Gautier said. "She gets better each time and never has a bad day.
Â
"She had a lot of family here to watch her and cheer her on. She had a good race."
Â
Junior cross country runner Paul Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) took fourth in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 14:51.50, just shy of his PR by nearly three seconds.
Â
"Paul was very competitive," Gautier said. "He lost contact briefly and slowed down for a lap, but he still had a great race."
Â
Sophomore Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.), running her first collegiate 1500m, placed 15th overall Friday with a time of 4:42.26 in the first heat. Junior Katie DeMars (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished fifth in the fifth heat with a time 5:03.52 and senior Helenka Kis (Columbia, Tenn.) was a few spots behind at 5:12.18.
