3/5/2016 6:39:00 PM | Women's Tennis
UTC won the doubles point and five singles in today's action.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team opened Southern Conference action with a 6-1 win at UNCG today. The Mocs won their sixth match in a row to improve to 6-4 overall.
UTC opened by taking the first two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Seniors Kayla Jones and Kelsey Coots won their sixth in a row at No. 1 to improve to 8-1 in the spring. Senior Katie Polk and sophomore Samantha Caswell teamed at No. 2 for their fourth consecutive victory.
"It was a solid win to start the SoCon season today," stated head coach Jeff Clark. "We got off to a fast start in doubles and kept the momentum going in singles. We won the first set in all six singles and that helped us put away the win."
Jones bounced back from her loss against Eastern Kentucky for a (6-1, 6-1) win over Soumeya Anane at No. 1. Coots was a winner at No. 2, followed by Caswell at No. 3. Senior Alison Storie took the point at No. 5 while Polk won her eight in a row at No. 6.
UNCG fell to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. Chattanooga returns to non-conference action next Saturday at Morehead State. First serve is 1:00 p.m. in Morehead, Ky.
