Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Katie Burrows
Overall thoughts on the game:
"We didn't shoot it particularly well, obviously. Neither of us did to be honest. We were both 1-8 from three. They made a couple more foul shots than we did and a couple more shots that we did, and obviously that is the difference.Â
"Fortunately, we outrebounded them. I was disappointed in our rebounding in the second half on the defensive end. We gave up some very unfortunate second-chance points to them. At least second-chance opportunities, even if they didn't score, that they should not be getting.
"Overall, they are usually a powerhouse on the offensive boards. For example, the Thompson kid had nine rebounds, which is very admirable. But usually she has 5-6 on the offensive end. The kids did their job with her.
"We didn't get to the foul line in the second half. We had opportunities. We were attaching in the first half and we drawing the fouls. Then in the second half it was almost as though it felt like we were going to foul and they did a good job of adjusting. We were bracing for contact and not making the shot.
"We to work on finishing with contact and going up strong this week.
"There were a couple of shots we took that I did not like. For the most part, I thought out shot selection was fine, we just did not knock them down."
"Overall, it was not an effort issue tonight and I am thankful for that. We have to knock down shots in order to win."
What did you learn from tonight's game:
"Even in the loss, it is a confidence booster for our team. This is the best team in the league and they have been executing all year. They know how to win. Our girls have been so up and down. We haven't been in a ton of situations where the game has been this tight. We have been in several, but not a ton.Â
"If Ebony's three goes in, it cuts to one and it is a whole different ball game. I like the way that we are clicking.  The rotations that I have in there, I feel like they are doing a good job. They are still making mistakes, but I feel like we are getting settled in to who we need to have out there at which times. It is always a work in progress."

Thoughts on staying in the game:
"Just attacking. We kept pushing the ball. Even when they scored we pushed the ball. On defense, we were just trying to get stops."
Why were threes so hard to come by?
"I really don't know. Maybe we were tired from going up and down the court. We knew they had some good three-point shoorters, so we were up on them. Maybe the same thing for us."
Arianne Whitaker – 4 – Jr. – F
On rebounding well against their big players:
"I basically just read where the shot was coming from. Based off that, I ran to where I thought it was going to be. It was basically me ready where it came off the rim."
On Mercer's play on defense late in the game:
"In that home stretch, we attacked more. We did what we could do. They got up in us more and stopped fouling. They basically started playing better defense. They doubled more."
