The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball program picked up its first victory of the 2023 campaign during the Hub City Beach Bash on Sunday.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. --- The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball team earned its first win of the 2023 season behind a 3-2 victory over Spring Hill before falling in the nightcap to the same opponent, 3-2, on the final day of the Hub City Beach Bash at Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Following the split, Chattanooga moves to 1-3 on the season after the first weekend of competition. Spring Hill also moves to a similar 1-3 mark on the season after the pair of duals.
Â
Chattanooga ended the opening weekend at the Hub City Beach Bash with a fourth-place finish after the four matches. Head coach Darin Van Horn is intrigued in what he saw from the young team in its first weekend of action.
Â
"It's easy to say the results from this weekend are not what we wanted. However, there is a lot of excitement around this young group and new faces are contributing," said Van Horn.
Â
"We saw a lot of point-for-point play with plenty of pressure situations. We were able to learn and improve from this even over the course of one day. It's tough when you have to forfeit a pair from the start, but our team didn't view that as an excuse, they saw it as a challenge and made the most of it."
Â
The Mocs were shorthanded during play this weekend and were only able to fill out the top four pairings due to injuries on the roster. The result of the short handedness made for an automatic 1-0 deficit before dual play started.
Â
Detailed results and scores from Sunday's action at Southern Miss are currently unavailable, but will be available at a time coming soon and can be found at GoMocs.com when made available.
