ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (3-3, 0-0 SoCon)
The Mocs enter their game against the Bisons sitting right at .500 on the year, having reentered the win column in their most recent matchup against King University. The team has prided itself on its defense to open the 2024-25 campaign, with the Mocs currently leading the Southern Conference in field goal percentage defense (.349) and three-point percentage defense (.242). Not only that, but UTC is also becoming your prototypical "Three-and-D" team, with the Mocs also ranking first in the SoCon in three-point attempts/game (24.2) and three-pointers made/game (8.0). The team's .331 three-point percentage is good enough to rank second in the conference as well. The Mocs haven't really relied on any one player to find their success this season, but the point guard duo of Sigrun Olafsdottir and Caia Elisaldez have certainly impressed to open the year. Olafsdottir currently leads the SoCon in numerous stat categories including assists/game (4.5), assist-turnover ratio (2.70) and three-point percentage (.424), while Elisaldez's 10.5 points/game average is good enough to pace the Mocs on the year.
ABOUT LIPSCOMB (6-1, 0-0 ASUN)
Following a season-opening loss at the hands of Vanderbilt, the Bisons have strung together an excellent stretch of basketball in which the team has won each of its last six games, now sitting 6-1 heading into Lipscomb's game against Chattanooga. A jack of many trades but really a master of none, Lipscomb has quietly built a well-rounded team that has earned wins over the likes of Tennessee State, ETSU, Morehead State and Evansville, to name a few. One area that the Bisons are a cut above the rest, however, would be the team's three-point shooting. Not only does Lipscomb currently lead the ASUN in three-point attempts/game (33.4) and three-pointers made/game (10.6), but both of those values currently rank fourth and seventh, respectively, in the entire NCAA. The Mocs will need to slow down the three-headed monster of Claira McGowan, Molly Heard and Ainhoa Cea in order to find success on Monday. McGowan currently leads the team with an average of 13.1 points/game, while Heard follows narrowly behind her at 12.3 points/game. That pair alone has accounted for a combined 26 made three-pointers on the season. Cea, on the other hand, has been the main distributor for the Bisons as her 34 total assists rank as the ninth-most by any player in the country right now.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The first and only time these two teams met before came on Dec. 14, 2023 last season in Nashville when the Mocs took on the Bisons on the road. Chattanooga would win that game 72-62 in what proved to be a back-and-forth contest, giving UTC a 1-0 series lead over Lipscomb. Last season's game against the Bisons was a landmark one for current sophomore Caia Elisaldez, as the youngster made her first-ever collegiate start that night. She would go on to log 11 points, her first double-digit scoring effort of her young career.
