"We need to continue to develop. We are currently not great at finding ways to get our hands raised, and that's a skill." – Coach Kyle Ruschell on tonight's result

Records
Chattanooga (3-4) | Kent State (5-3)

The Breakdown
  • The match started well with Hunter Mason getting a takedown in the opening seconds of his bout at 141. He got the squad on the board first with a 3-0 lead holding on for an 8-6 decision.
  • Kent State took control of the match with three pins in the next four matches to build a 21-3 advantage. The falls sandwiched a tight 6-4 decision at 157 and included one in the final seconds at 165 in a match that looked destined for overtime.
  • Landon Jones got the ship steadied with a 4-1 decision in overtime at 184. He got his takedown 34 seconds into the period for the win over Trent Thomas.
  • The Golden Flashes clinched the match at 197 with Tre McTorry III majored, 14-6, by Blake Schaffer. It was a valiant effort from McTorry but the hole was already dug by the three falls.
  • Ethan Vergara turned it around with a strong 5-1 decision at 285 over Corey Boerio. Cooper Flynn followed with one of his own at 125.
  • The match ended with an overtime loss for Bryce Luna. He twice nearly finished the match in regulation with shot attempts in the final minute. He got the leg in overtime, but Nick Molchak out-maneuvered him for the win.
