The Paladins earned a 3-0 sweep of the Mocs

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Chattanooga looked for a bounce-back win Friday night after losing in five sets the night before to Furman. However, that was not the case as the Paladins protected their home court in a three-set sweep. The loss is Chattanooga's first by a sweep in conference play this year.

Final Score
Chattanooga 0, Furman 3 (22-25, 20-25, 16-25)

Furman (8-7, 2-2 SoCon)

Series Notes
Chattanooga drops to 34-53 all-time against Furman and 11-27 all-time in road matches against Furman. This is the first time since 2019 that the Paladins have beaten the Mocs twice in one season.

How it Happened
A kill from Bailey Burgess was the first point of the night before Furman went on a quick 6-0 run. That Paladins lead in the first set reached as many as seven points at 16-9 after a kill from Izzy Castelloe. Chattanooga battled back getting within as few as two points at 23-21 with a Elena Vukmanov kill. Furman held firm though, scoring two of the next three points to take the 25-22 win and go up 1-0.

Chattanooga started to get things going in the early part of the second set, leading 7-3 behind a run on Ryan Oden's service rotation. Vukmanov tallied a kill at the 12-6 marker to give the Mocs a six-point advantage before Furman rallied with six straight points to tie the set back up. The score remained super tight with Furman holding a 21-20 lead late in the set after a kill from Kynli Kirkendoll. Immediately afterwards though, the Paladins scored the final four points of the set to win 25-20 and go up two sets in the match.

It did not take long for Furman to gain control of the third set as it scored seven of the first nine points. As the set progresses, a Chattanooga attack error put the home side up eight points at 17-9. A 4-0 run for UTC capped off by a kill from Gracie Rose put her side down just four points. However, that is as close as the Mocs would get, as the Paladins extended their lead on the way to a 25-16 win and a three-set sweep.

For the second night in a row, Rose led UTC in kills with nine.
Ashley Reynolds with 18 and Mallory Merz with 12 were in double figures in assists.

The Paladins had 45 kills to the Mocs' 45.

Postgame Quote
Julie Torbett Thomas Head Coach
On tonight's performance

"We can't seem to get it together on the same night. We lost the serve pass game. So while I do think we take steps forward, we also slide back and we need to buckle down and play like we know how."

Up Next: Chattanooga visits Tennessee Tech on Tuesday for the first meeting between the two schools as SoCon opponents. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CDT.
