Indoor Track and Field on the Road to the SoCon Championships

Andrea Ellis is ranked ninth in the SoCon in the 5000 meter run.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's indoor track and field team heads to Lexington, Va., for the 2026 Southern Conference Championships hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
The women's 3000 meter finals will take place Friday, split into two sections. Scarlett Nash, Aburey Park and Ellie von Herrmann are set to compete in the event.
 
The women's DMR race is the only other track final that day. A combination of runners will fill out the four-person team. The first leg is the 1200 meter followed by the 400 and the 800 and concludes with the 1600 meter.
 
Norah Haney and Ava McGue will compete in the only field final for the Mocs Friday, the long jump.
 
The women's Mile prelims run at 1:45 p.m. Friday. Maddie Wheatcroft leads the Mocs in the race this season and is ranked 10th in the SoCon with a time of 4:56.56. Leah Boyd Mitchell is next, ranked 12th in the league with a time of 5:02.64. Also in the Top 20 is Bella King with a time of 5:06.97.
 
Ryleigh Simmons, ranked sixth in the SoCon in the 60 meter dash, will run the prelim Friday at 2:28 p.m. Ava McGue will run the 400 meter trials at 2:48 p.m. with Simmons to follow in the 200 meter at 3:30 p.m.
 
Halle Carden gets the Mocs started Saturday with the women's high jump at 10:30 a.m. She shares the top spot in the league standings with her school record 5-07.25, set earlier this month at the UAB Green & Gold Invitational. She will take part in the triple jump at 12:30 p.m., where she is 10th in the SoCon standings at 11.18 meters [36-08.25].
 
Chattanooga's Andrea Ellis, ranked ninth in the SoCon standings in the 5000 meter run, lead a trio of Mocs on the track. Lola Baker is 16th in the league rankings followed by Emma Thweatt.
 
The women's Mile finals take place at 12:40 p.m. followed by the 60 meter finals at 1:12 p.m. The women's 400 meter final follows at 1:28 p.m. and the 200 meter final is set for a 1:58 p.m. start. Track events conclude with the 4x400 meter relay just before 3 p.m.
