No. 3 Women’s Tennis Downs No. 6 UNCG 4-0 to Advance to SoCon Semifinals

The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team earned its first SoCon Tournament shutout since 2016 and advances to tomorrow’s final four.

CHATTANOOGA (April 16, 2026) — The No. 3 seed Chattanooga Mocs women's tennis team posted its first quarterfinal victory since 2022 with a dominating 4-0 shutout over No. 6 UNCG on the opening day of the Southern Conference Tennis Championships held at Champions Club in Chattanooga.
 
With the win, No. 3 Chattanooga advances to tomorrow's semifinal round and will face No. 2 ETSU at 10 a.m. (ET). Additional information, match recap and more can be found below.

Chattanooga opened the match with a strong 6-2 victory from Emma Pedretti and Savannah Presson over Kayley Bushnell and Sofia Somoano at No. 2 doubles. UTC's No. 1 pairing of Addison Iacono and Rufaro Magarira defeated Sophia Cedeno and Ivet Sala-Sanchez (6-4) moments later to give the squad a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
 
In singles action, Zara Burns dominated at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sala-Sanchez to push Chattanooga ahead 2-0. Jordan Fenton extended the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1, against Somoano on court No. 6 singles.
 
Rufaro Magarira provided the match's clinching moment with a quality 6-4, 6-1 win over at the No. 2 position. All remaining matches went unfinished as the event plays under the four-point clinch format.
