CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Women's Basketball team added its third player this Transfer Portal cycle, in Gabbie Grooms from Georgia State. The 5-foot-8 guard from Peachtree City, Georgia is another key addition to the Mocs'Â 2026-27 roster. Grooms comes to the Blue and Gold as a rising junior.Â
"Gabbie is an elite playmaker and scorer. She is a perfect fit for our team with her hard work ethic and high basketball IQ. We are very excited to add another local talent to our roster, and I know the fans will definitely enjoy watching her play," said Head Coach

This past season at Georgia State, Grooms played in all 31 games while making 21 starts. She averaged 5.3 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Panthers. Her best game of the season came in a home game against Old Dominion, where she scored a career-high 17 points. On the glass she had a career-high six rebounds in three games, including against UTC's SoCon opponent, Furman, early in the season.Â
Grooms started her collegiate career playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference at Georgia Tech. During her freshman season with the Yellow Jackets, she appeared in 11 games, scoring 23 points. Grooms was part of the Tech squad that went 22-11 and were nationally ranked as high as No. 13 in the country at one point in the season.Â
Playing high school basketball at Trinity Christian under her mother, who was the Head Coach, Grooms had a very distinguished career in prep hoops. Grooms was the 4A All-State Player of the Year her senior year, a three-time winner of Atlanta Journal Constitution Player of the Year, and a two-time GBCAA All-Star selection. She scored over 2,000 points and accounted for over 700 rebounds in her career. Additionally, she led her side to a pair of Regional Championships and a pair of Final Four appearances. Grooms played AAU with Southeast All Stars.Â
Gabbie's parents are Lady and Windell Grooms. Lady played basketball professionally in the WNBA for eight seasons with the Utah Starzz and the Sacramento Monarchs, and was a First Round pick in the Inaugural WNBA Draft. She played college basketball at Georgia, where she was a two-time All-SEC performer.Â
