Career Development Institute
The Career Development Institute was developed in the fall of 2019 in response to a growing need to help students with their post-graduation transition.
Students are nominated by their academic advisors and asked to bring a teammate to attend a series of events focused on life after college.
Event 1 consists of a series of stations covering topics such as networking, what to wear in different professional settings, resume and cover letter information and an etiquette dinner.
For Event 2, students engage with professionals in their chosen field for mock interviews. Alumni and community partners meet with students one-on-one to discuss their experiences in college, review their resume and provide feedback on common interview questions
Event 3 brings in specific alumni to discuss the job offer itself. Former football student-athlete Nick Pollard has presented in the past on salary negotiations and understanding a competitive offer, while offering a comprehensive look at what benefits may be offered for different positions.
Event 4 is the culminating event for our CDI participants. Students and alumni who assisted throughout the program are honored at a banquet that was last sponsored by Jay Dale and First Horizon Bank.
