Mocs Score Road Win at Sewanee

UTC defeats the Tigers 5-4 for its fourth win of the spring.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team scored a 5-4 win at Sewanee tonight. The Mocs won four singles matches on their way to improving to 4-5 in spring dual matches. The Tigers, ranked No. 29 in the NCAA Division III, dropped to 4-2 overall.
UTC got in an early 2-1 hole after losing two of the three doubles matches. Senior Luke Saunders and junior Derek Brown posted an 8-5 win over Alex Depascual and Scott Gallimore at No. 2 to put Chattanooga on the board.
Senior Nick Wingord and freshman Pablo Llebeili trailed early in their match at No. 3 and were down 7-3 against Fletcher Kerr and Avery Schober. They won three straight games to make it tight before falling 8-6.
UTC jumped out to quick advantages in the first three singles matches. Junior Lucas Plesky tied the match with his (6-1, 6-0) win over Schober at No. 1. It was his sixth win in a row as he improved to 6-2 in the spring.
Sewanee went back on top 3-2 with a win at No. 2, but Wingord tied it again at No. 3. He defeated Jack Grey (7-6 (3), 6-4) in a tough outing.
Saunders kept it going for the Mocs in the second wave of singles on the Tigers' three indoor courts. He defeated Depascual (6-3, 6-1) at No. 4. Sewanee quickly tied it again at 4-4 with a win at No. 5.
That left Llebeili's match at No. 6 as the decider. He had already jumped out to a 6-1 win in the first set against Kerr. However, he trailed 5-4 in the second as the matched tightened up. He managed to win the last three games and seal the team win 5-4.
The Mocs are back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 27, against Eastern Kentucky. First serve against the Colonels is Noon (E.S.T.) at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. It is also a double header with the women's teams and live scoring is available on the schedule pages on GoMocs.com.
