The Chattanooga Mocs softball team fell to Georgia Tech 3-2 and USF 9-0 on the first day of the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. UTC moves to 15-14.
In the opening game of the day, senior
Anyssa Robles had the first hit against the Yellow Jackets with a single to right field in the second inning.
Georgia Tech scored two runs in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth with two outs, senior
Sam Taylor doubled to right center. Senior
Alyssa Taylor followed with a single up the left field line, bringing
Sam Taylor home.
Freshman
Jordan Fortel singled up the middle, batting
Alyssa Taylor in, to tie the game up 2-2.
In the sixth, the Yellow Jackets scored their third run off a wild pitch.
Sophomore
Cori Jennings pitched in her first game back since UTC's meeting with Kentucky on Feb. 27. She fanned five strikeouts in four innings.
Fortel stepped into the circle in the bottom of the fifth.
Robles led the squad with two hits and five putouts.
In the Mocs' second game of the day, the Bulls got off to a fast start scoring three times in the first inning, including a two-run homer by Erica Nunn.
USF put together three runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Junior
Jesslyn Stockard tallied a game-best six putouts.
Fortel started the game from the mound, with sophomore
Kailey Palazzolo stepping in during the third.
Chattanooga faces Rutgers Saturday at 11:45 a.m. and Hartford at 2:15 p.m.
