Mocs Fall in Final Game at ETSU

Chattanooga belted a season-high 17 hits; left a season-high 15 on base in 10-5 loss to ETSU
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball dropped the final game of a three-game series to ETSU, 10-5, on Saturday afternoon in Johnson City and were swept for the weekend.
It was the first time ETSU has swept Chattanooga in a three-game series in program history. With the loss, the Mocs fall to 12-30 and 2-10 in SoCon play. ETSU improves to 20-19, 6-3 in conference.
Chattanooga is back in action at Frost Stadium on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Tennessee Tech.

ETSU scored the game's first runs in the bottom of the second when a fielder's choice to shortstop scored a runner from third. The Mocs answered with two runs in the top of third when the fourth-straight two-out single of the inning was off the bat of Aly Walker, driving in a pair of runs as the bases were loaded. The Bucs tied the game at 2-2 in the home half of the third on a two-out single to center field, scoring a runner from second.
Chattanooga took a 3-2 lead when Katy Richardson led off the fourth inning with a solo homerun off the scoreboard in right-center field. They would load the bases with no outs following the homerun, but failed to score a run. ETSU plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI double to the warning track in left field and regained the lead, 4-3. The Mocs would tie things up at 4-4 in the top of the fifth when Walker belted a solo homerun to dead center to lead the inning off.
The Bucs loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth and later cleared them on a grand slam over the left field fence, giving ETSU an 8-4 lead. After Emma Sturdivant and Jesslyn Stockard singled to begin the sixth, they advanced on a Brook Womack sacrifice bunt, and Sturdivant later scored on a Walker sacrifice fly to left field, cutting the deficit to 8-5. The Bucs would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend out a 10-5 advantage.
Celie Hudson (3-5) took the loss in the circle as she tossed 6.0 innings and allowed ten hits, ten runs (all earned) while walking six and striking out four. She threw a career-high 159 pitches.
The Mocs belted a season-high 17 hits, the most since Mar. 8, 2013 against Toledo, but also left a season-high 15 on base, the most since April 11, 2011 against Georgia Southern. Seven different Mocs had multi-hit games including Sturdivant, who led the way by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Every player had a hit as Hayleigh Weissenbach (2-for-5), Stockard (2-for-5, run), Womack (2-for-3), Walker (2-for-4, four RBI) and Halie Williamson (2-for-4) all contributed to the multi-hit category. J.J. Hamill and Richardson (HR) chipped in with 1-for-4 performances.

- Katy Richardson also hit her first career HR ... hitting .309 with four doubles and six RBIs on the season.
