LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Chattanooga women's Distance Medley Relay Team finished third overall on Day One of the Southern Conference Championships at the Corps Physical Training Facility on the VMI campus and earned all-conference honors.
Â
"Our DMR ran a very good race," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "Ashlynd led off with a solid lead and Katie was able to maintain placing."
Â
Ashlynd Broling led the Mocs running a 3:54.91 in the 1200 meter run. She passed it off to Katie Coker who ran the 400 meter leg in a time of 1:00.64, .10 seconds faster than her PR at that distance.
Â
Abby Bateman took the baton for the 800 meter leg and ran it in a time of 2:22.15 gaining ground for the Mocs. Nicole Buehrle anchoring the race with a time of 5:05.91 in the 1600 meter passed teams to grab third for the Mocs.
Â
"Abby put us in a position to place and Nicole redeemed herself after a disappointing mile earlier, ran a PR and caught teams to get third," Meyer said. "This was a great team effort by the ladies."
Â
Furman won the race with a time of 11:39.35 followed by Samford with a time of 12:04.67.
Â
Emily Poole, who drew a No. 9 seed, scored for the Mocs in the 3000 meter Run placing seventh overall with a PR time of 10:10.27. She bested her previous top time by 2.66 seconds. Sophia Neglia placed 13th for the Mocs and Julia Henderson was 14th with a PR time of 10:53.50.
Â
"Sophia and Julia ran all alone to finish 1-2 in their heat," Meyer said. "Emily slowly worked her way through the pack to PR and finish seventh."
Â
Kennedy Thomson qualified for the 800 meter run Sunday as well as the Mile. She finished third in the Mile with a time of 4:57.55 and was sixth overall in the 800m at 2:17.94, third in her heat.
Â
"Kennedy was able negotiate two strategic races," Meyer said. "She got to the finals in both the mile and 800.
Â
"Rebekah Hampton, Rebekah Bryant and Hannah Salami had a very good day with multiple PRS."
Â
Day Two will begin for the Mocs who are currently seventh with eight points, at 11:50 a.m. with the Mile run and conclude at 3:30 p.m. with the start of the 4x400 meter relay.
