RALEIGH, N.C. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Kennedy Thomson broke her third school record this year and her first in the outdoor season at the Outdoor Track and Field Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State this weekend.
Â
Thomson ran a 2:08.33 in the 800 meter Saturday to get the school record she flirted with the week before. Her aggressive strategy was good enough beat out the 2016 record set by Maddison Melchionna (2:08.88) by 0.55 seconds and finished third in the race.
Â
On Friday, she ran a 4:34.06 in the 1500 meter run in a race that turned strategic.
Â
Thomson broke both the 800 and 1500 meter times in the indoor season and earned all-conference honors in the shorter distance, taking third at the Southern Conference Championships.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH ANDY MEYER
"Yesterday in the 1500, the field went out at a solid pace but everyone became tentative as the pace slowed. It unfortunately became a tactical race and times weren't what we hoped. Kennedy finished 18 overall which was a decent result for the way it played out.
Â
"Today in the 800, Kennedy was much more aggressive. She stayed in striking position even though at times she was out in lane three (3). She fought hard to maintain position and was able to finish strong with a great result!!
Â
"Overall it was good learning experience on racing and racing situations. The more racing situations you have against big, fast fields, the easier it becomes to navigate and position yourself for a favorable result. Kennedy may not win every time but she's learning what she must do to be there at the end."
