Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Region Friday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams will head to Tallahassee, Fla., this Friday for the NCAA South Region Championships hosted by Florida State.

The Mocs both finished fourth in the Southern Conference Championships last month with senior Paul Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) and junior Brennan Huber (Manchester, Tenn.) earning all-conference honors.

The Mocs will take seven runners from each team to compete at the regionals. The men will have, along with Huber and Stuart, Astin Casassa (Nashville, Tenn.), Richard Guiry (Nashville, Tenn.), Gavin Hasty (Brentwood, Tenn.), John Payne (Portland, Tenn.) and Nathan Watson (Hendersonville, Tenn.).

The women, led by senior Maddison Melchoinna (Afton, Tenn.) will take Jessica York (Normandy, Tenn.), Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.), Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.), Kennedy Thomson (Catharine's, Ontario), Hannah Caldwell (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Brianna Nelson (Jefferson, Wisc.).

The event will take place at the Apalachee Regional Park cross country course. It consists of a series of trails and loops that allows for competition to be contested over a wide range of race lengths. The predominant running surfaces are grass and crushed shell and exceeds the NCAA Championship 10-meter width requirement at all points.
