Track Heads to SoCon Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's track and field team heads to the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week at Cullowhee, N.C.

Thursday morning will begin the track events with the 10,000 meter run. Senior Keeley Stewart (Winchester, Tenn.) along with junior Teghan Henderson (Pickering, Ontario) and junior Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) will get the meet started.

After a break for field events, the Mocs will get back to the track to run the women's 1500 meter prelims at 2:45 p.m. Junior Jessica York (Normandy, Tenn.) will compete in the middle distance event for UTC. She ran a time of 4:41.34 at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Invitational and ranks 11th in the league standings.

Senior Kiaana Howard (Nashville, Tenn.) will run her final SoCon meet this weekend in the 400 meter dash. The trials are set to begin at 3:50 p.m. She is a top 20 runner in the SoCon with a time of 1:00.00 at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala.

Sophomore Maddison Melchionna (Afton, Tenn.) has the league's top time in the 800 meter run with a school record mark of 2:08.88 set at the War Eagle Invitaitonal. She will be joined in the race by freshmen Lily McKee (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Madison Watson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and sophomore Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.) who ranks fifth in the SoCon with a time of 2:13.77, clocked at the WKU Hilltopper Invitational.

Thursday's events will close out with the women's 3000 meter Steeplechase final at 6:55 p.m. Sohomore Emily Drouin (Verona, Ontario) and freshman Haley Morris (Lenoir City, Tenn.) are scheduled to run the event. Drouin ranks third in the league standings while Morris, new to the event, ranks 10th with a time of 11:59.16.

The first event for the women on Friday will be the 4x100 meter followed by the 1500 meter finals. The women's 400 meter final is slated for a 3:10 p.m. start with the 800 meter finals at 3:50 p.m. Chattanooga has several runners scheduled for the 5000 meter at 5 p.m. Chance, Stewart, York and Henderson are all set to run with the 4x400 meter relay closing out the competition.
