HEAD COACH ANDY MEYER
Outlook on the race
"We are looking forward to this NCAA South Region preview race at Alabama. Most of the very good teams in the south will be here. It's going to be a loaded field and great competition for our kids. We most definitely look forward to the challenge."
Â
On the course
"This is a very hard and demanding course. Exactly what you would expect out of a championship course. It will demand runners be disciplined and patient. The first mile is unforgiving, basically 800 meter downhill start then uphill. If you overlook the start there is absolutely nowhere to recover and the race becomes a death march."
Â
On the Chattanooga runners
"Our kids have had some great workouts to boost their confidence since Louisville. We had a few start to put thing together there and with the great workouts of the last few weeks, we hope to see more kids progress. As the great Coach Dillinger said: "Fitness is patience." We have been patient for the most part and fitness should arrive for some more kids here.
Â
"We had a few kids go out too fast and out too slow at Louisville. This is a chance to correct those mistakes. We will have some make similar mistakes tomorrow, but that's what this race is for; to figure out proper effort and pacing for when it really counts in November.
Â
THE FIELD
In addition to the No. 3-ranked Crimson Tide, the men's race will feature 29 teams, including regionally-ranked programs Auburn, Belmont, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, North Florida, Samford, UT Martin, Texas A&M and Texas-Arlington.
Â
The seventh-ranked Alabama women will race in a field 31 teams, including regionally-ranked opponents Auburn, Belmont, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Lipscomb, LSU, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Samford, Southern Miss, Texas A&M and UAB.
Â
UP NEXT
The Mocs will take a couple weeks to prepare for the Southern Conference Championships. The event will be hosted by Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C., at Milliken Park. Furman men and women are picked to repeat as champions for a fifth consecutive year. The Chattanooga men were picked to finish fifth and the women fourth. Both teams placed fourth last year.
