Mocs Fall to NKU 4-2

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 match at Northern Kentucky tonight. The Mocs won the doubles point, but only managed one win in five singles matches.
The Norse took the first doubles match at No. 1, but Chattanooga responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Freshman Niklas Gerdes and senior Nic Wilson won their second in a row with a 6-4 victory against Blaine Carr and Adrian Isache at No. 2.
Senior Derrick Brown and junior Michael Birnbaum improved to 3-1 at No. 3 with a 7-5 win over Chris Murray and Andrew Niehaus.
Freshman Simon Bustamante scored a three-set win at No. 5 for the Mocs other point in the contest. After losing the first set, he came back to defeat Isache (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).
"Today was a tough loss," stated UTC head coach Carlos Garcia. "We came out strong and gained the early lead with some inspired doubles play.
"College tennis is about momentum and we have to give credit to Northern Kentucky with how they turned the match around in singles."
Next up for the Mocs is a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Racquet Club. UTC faces North Alabama at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) and Covenant College at 6:00 p.m.
