CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's outdoor track and field team will open the 2017 season Saturday at the JSU Gamecock Opener in Oxford, Ala.

"We are looking forward to opening up our outdoor season at JSU," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "Coming off the indoor season, we have learned how to run but still not quite mastered how to race." This meet will be an excellent opportunity for the team to continue the learning process in a highly competitive situation."

The team, composed by a majority of freshmen will compete in eight different events. The Mocs' most senior runners are Hannah Chamblin and Anna Kate Chance. Chamblin will lead four in the 400 meter dash while Chance will be one of our UTC runners in the 800 meter run.

Haley Morris, a sophomore, will run the 3000 meter Steeplechase and sophomore Mercedes Bright will run both the 100m and 200 meter dashes. Joining her in the latter will be freshmen Kelsey Henry and Taylor Sawyer.

Freshmen Rebekah Wich and Hannah Caldwell will run the 1500 meter for UTC. Also running the 400m will be Abby Bateman, Kennedy Thomson and sophomore Madison Watson. The 800 meter will include freshmen Nicole Buehrle, Maddie Christian and Julia Henderson.

"They will be running more events, individually, as we move into the outdoor season as their fitness improves from the indoor season," Meyer said. "As these freshmen become more comfortable with college competition, they will find themselves much more relaxed and running faster will naturally occur."

Chattanooga will field one team in the 4x100 meter relay and two in the 4x400. The running events kick off at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time with the 3000 meter Steeplechase and end with the 4x400m relay.
