CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's outdoor track and field team is headed to the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships April 27-28 in Birmingham, Ala. The event will be hosted by Samford University at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

"We are excited and thankful to have the opportunity to run at the SoCon outdoor championships this weekend," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "We are reaching peak form just at the right time. Many of the young ladies have had a great season and hit times and marks they had no idea they were capable of running or jumping."

Junior Kennedy Thomson broke the school record in the outdoor 800 meter at the Raleigh Relays this season and ranks in the Top 10 in three events. She is second in the 800m, seventh in the 1500 meter and ninth in her first attempt at the outdoor 400 meter distance.

Senior Nicole Buehrle made her first attempt at the 400 meter hurdles this season and in just her second race, posted the seventh best time in the SoCon at the War Eagle Invitational. She is fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, another event she tried her hand at for the first time this season, and is ranked eighth in the 1500 meter run.

"Our coaches, Amanda Cotter and Micheal Gadson, have done an extraordinary job this season getting these young ladies mentally and physically prepared for our championship meet," Meyer said. "We have a few nagging injuries, but so do other teams, and most of the girls are going to be 100 percent for this meet."

"The conference has many very good teams that are seasoned and well coached," Meyer said. "It will take a great effort by our girls and staff to compete well. Everyone is going to have to be at their mental and physical limits this weekend."
