CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga indoor track and field team is headed to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Samford at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Lesley Boyd and Aaron Isbell will head Nashville for the Music City Challenge.
Â
"We are looking forward to racing both Saturday and Sunday this week back at Samford," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "It will be a highly competitive weekend of racing that will help simulate the two-day racing we will endure at the Southern Conference Championship in a couple weeks. We have worked very hard over the last three to four weeks as everyone is ready to see exactly what kind of fitness they have. We will have the ladies move more towards their specialty events and on Saturday a few of the guys will join us for the first time all season."
Â
Injuries and illness dropped the Mocs numbers too low to compete in the Samford Invitational in January. As a result, UTC will run in both the Invitational and the Open this weekend.
Â
On Friday at Samford, Leah Boyd, Andrea Ellis and Camden Morris will get things started with the women's Mile at 2:25 p.m. Eastern time. Sarah Unterholzner it up next with the 400 meter at 3:05 p.m.
Â
Chattanooga has five running the 800 meter with Maddie Wheatcroft, Lexi Foley, Kathryn Vradenburgh, Lola Baker and Allie Potter just before 4 p.m. Ava McGue will close out the individual races with the 200 meter at 4:25 p.m.
Â
The Mocs will place two teams in the 4x400 meter to close out Friday's schedule.
Â
Saturday will see many of the same runners in the same events. However, Baker and Morris will move to the 5,000 meter run in the Bulldog Open at Noon.
Â
Wheatcroft, Tyll and Vradenburgh will run the women's Mile at 2:25 p.m. followed by the men's Mile with Tristan Gould, Riley Hanson and Eric Mitchell.
Â
The women's 400 meter at 3:05 p.m. will feature Unterholzner and Hannah Dearing. Next up is the 800 meter with Foley, Kennedy Reynolds and Olivia Steele. McGue will once again run the 200 meter.
Â
The women's 3000 meter with Boyd and Ellis will run at 5:25 and the men's trio who made the trip will end the meet at the same distance.
Â
Lesley Boyd and Aaron Isbell will both run the Mile and 3000 meter at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt on Friday.
Â
"We are sending a very few select kids to race this weekend at the Vandy Meet as it is very, very competitive," Meyer said. "We are excited to see what Lesley and Aaron will do there."
Â
The Mile Run will begin with the women's race at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on Friday. The men's race will follow. The same will take place on Saturday with the men's 3000 meter race following the women.
