CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga battled back to claim the third set but could not overcome a strong offensive performance from Wofford in a 3-1 Southern Conference volleyball loss Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gym. The Terriers won by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-19.

The Mocs recorded 47 kills and a .193 attack percentage. Addison Walker paced Chattanooga with 14 kills on a .433 hitting percentage, while Kynli Kirkendoll added nine kills and Ashley Reynolds distributed 23 assists. Reynolds topped the 1,000 assist mark in the match and has 1,008 in her career.

Set 1 | Wofford 25, Chattanooga 20
The opening set featured eight ties before Wofford seized control with a decisive 6-0 run that turned a 7-7 deadlock into a 13-7 advantage. Chattanooga chipped away behind kills from Addison Walker and Kynli Kirkendoll, eventually pulling even at 17-17 following a 10-4 surge.

The Terriers responded immediately, scoring six of the next seven points to regain momentum. Chattanooga closed within 23-20 after a service ace from the Terriers, but Wofford finished the set with consecutive kills to take a 1-0 match lead.

Set 2 | Wofford 25, Chattanooga 15
The Mocs jumped out quickly in the second set, building a 3-0 lead behind back-to-back kills from Addison Walker. Wofford answered with a dominant 10-1 stretch, turning a 3-3 tie into a 10-4 advantage.

Chattanooga narrowed the gap to 10-8 with four straight points, highlighted by another Walker kill and a block, but the Terriers again found separation. Wofford closed the set on a 15-7 run to move ahead 2-0 in the match.

Set 3 | Chattanooga 25, Wofford 19
Facing a two-set deficit, the Mocs delivered their best volleyball of the afternoon. After falling behind 4-0 early, Chattanooga steadily worked back into the set behind contributions from Sophia Garrido, Addison Walker and Gracie Rose.

A 6-1 run turned a 7-6 deficit into a 12-8 lead, and the Mocs never trailed again. Chattanooga extended the margin to 18-12 behind a service ace from Ryan Oden and continued to answer every Wofford push. Kills from Elena Vukmanov, Kynli Kirkendoll and Walker helped the Mocs reach set point before a block by Gracie Rose and Jordin Glass sealed the 25-19 victory, cutting the match deficit to 2-1.

Set 4 | Wofford 25, Chattanooga 19
Looking to force a decisive fifth set, Chattanooga stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 10-5 before trimming the gap to 15-9 and later 19-13. Kills from Walker, Rose and Vukmanov, along with a block from Kirkendoll and Garrido, kept the Mocs competitive.

The Terriers maintained control behind the play of Avery White and Chloe Smith, pushing the lead to 23-17 late in the frame. Chattanooga scored two of the next three points, including a service ace from Caiti Barthel, but Wofford closed out the match with a final kill from Smith to secure the four-set win.

"I think we had our moments when we looked very good," Mocs head coach Julie Torbett Thomas said. "That is encouraging because it's just opening weekend and against the three-time defending champion. We have to stay focused and just keep moving forward."

Addison Walker led Chattanooga with 14 kills while hitting .433.
Kynli Kirkendoll added nine kills and Rose chipped in seven.
Ashley Reynolds posted a team-best 23 assists and 11 digs.
Reynolds topped the 1,000 assist mark in the match and has 1,008 in her career.
Caiti Barthel led the Mocs defensively with 16 digs.
Wofford was led by Bradley Brown's match-high 18 kills and hit .302 as a team.
Chattanooga moved to 5-9 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improved to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in league action.
