Deanna Campbell (1986-90) was the first-ever UTC runner, male or female, to become an individual event champion at the SoCon Championships. As a sophomore, she won the 10,000-meter run and set a school record in the event which stood for over 10 years.

Despite several injuries, Campbell received All-SoCon honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field during all four years of competition. In 1993, the Conference selected her as one of the top female runners in the first 10 years of female student-athlete participation in the league.

Campbell graduated with honors in 1990 and was the recipient of the Dayle May Award for the graduating student-athlete with the highest grade point average.
