UTC takes a singles and doubles match in the loss against the Trojans.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match at Troy this afternoon. The Mocs took a doubles and singles match before falling to 4-7 on the year.
UTC almost completed a big comeback in doubles after losing at No. 2. Sophomore Michael Birnbaum and freshman Paul LaHue were down 2-0 at No. 3 and senior Luke Saunders and junior Lucas Plesky were trailing 5-2 at No. 1.
Birnbaum and LaHue took control of their match and won 6-4. Saunders and Plesky stormed back to force a tiebreaker. The dropped the extra frame 7-1 to lose the doubles point to the Trojans.
The Mocs had some momentum in singles play. Plesky and senior Nick Wingord won their first sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. LaHue was also up 5-1 in the first set at No. 5.
Troy clinched the match with wins at No. 3, No. 6 and No. 6, and LaHue eventually lost at No. 5. Plesky and Wingord had both of their matches go to a third set, with Wingord winning in a super-tiebreaker.
