CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's indoor track and field team will head to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Buccaneer Track and Field Invitational Friday and Saturday hosted by ETSU at the MSHA Athletic Center.
Â
"We are looking forward to competing at ETSU," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "ETSU has run this meet for quite a few years and it has always been very competitive."
Â
The Mocs will compete in nine events from the 60 meter dash to the 5000 meter run. The women's 60 meter Hurdles prelim will kick off the track events at 10:30 a.m. with the semifinal round to follow. Freshman Rebekah Hampton posted a time of 9.87 at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker in December.
Â
Sophomore Nicole Buehrle will run the 400 meter dash prelims looking to improve upon her 1:02.72 mark set at the Emory CrossPlex Invitational last season. The 60 meter dash will follow with junior Mercedes Bright toeing the line. Bright, along with sophomore Taylor Sawyer, will run the 200 meter dash.
Â
Sophomore transfer Emily Poole will run in the only final on Friday, taking part in the 5000 meter run.
Â
Saturday will be a day of finals beginning with the 3000 meter run. The Mocs will enter four in the race including sophomores Poole, Hannah Caldwell and Rebekah Wich along with freshman Sophia Neglia.
Â
Four will run the 800 meter as well with an overload of freshmen. Ashlynd Broling, Katie Coker and Brianna Nelson will all run the middle distance race along with sophomore Abby Bateman who set a time of 2:18.29 at the Crimson Tide Invitational last season.
Â
The finals for the 60 meter Hurdles, 60 meter dash, 200m, 400m finals will all run Saturday. The Mile race will have the most senior Mocs running highlighted by senior Jessica York who posted a 5:05 at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships. She will be joined by juniors Haley Morris and Brianna Nelson and sophomore Julia Henderson, running in her first Mile race.
Â
"We are moving kids into their respective races more and more to prep them for the outdoor season," Meyer said. "This meet will be a great test of our current fitness level and also a great indicator of our weakness so we can shore those up in the next few weeks."
Â
The meet will conclude with the 4x400 meter relay. The final lineup for the race is yet to be decided.
