CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's indoor track and field team heads to VMI this weekend for the Southern Conference Championships at the Keydet's Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va. This year marks the 86th edition of the men's championship and 34th women's championship. VMI is hosting the meets for the fourth straight season.
Â
"We are excited for our indoor conference meet," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer stated. "We will be taking a very young team with half the young ladies being freshmen.
Â
"This is the most diverse group of athletes we have taken to conference meet in many years. We are taking sprinters, jumpers, mid and long-distance kids. What makes this group unique is that we have not only our traditional distance kids with some of the top marks in the conference, but we have jumpers, sprinters, and mid distance kids all with top 10 marks in the conference."
Â
The Mocs 5000 meter runners are all ranked in the SoCon's Top 12 led by Makenzie Jones who is fourth in the league marks with a time of 17:30.81. Lesley Green is seventh in the SoCon followed by Emma Russum in eighth and Sophia Neglia is 12th.
Â
Kimbra Dunning is ranked 11th in the long jump and 14th in the triple jump. Madelyn Thompson (17) and Mikah Charley (19) are both ran6ked in the 50 meter hurdles. Ashtyn Hagood will run the women's mile and is 15th in the league standings with a time of 5:16.87 while Emmy Davis, with a time of 2:23.91, is 14th in the SoCon standings.
Â
In the 60 meter dash, McKenzie Williamson sits 20th overall with a time of 8.01. She will also run the 200 meter dash. Imani Bryant and Sage Davis will join her in both races and Dunning will compete in the shorter race.
Â
Carley Burt and Rebekah Pass will run the 400 meter dash and Faith Brown will be the lone Moc in the 3000 meter run. Joining Dunning in the jumps will be Mikah Charley in both and Madelyn Thompson in the long jump.
Â
"Coaches Gadson and Griffin have done a great job getting everyone prepared for the meet," Meyer said. "Brittany Wilson, our trainer, has done a great job keeping everyone healthy and ready for this meet as well. We are looking forward to competing hard and hopefully the ladies will have some great placings."
