Southern Showcase on the Horizon for Cross Country

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams are on the road Friday morning for the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.

"It is a great course," Mocs head coach Andy Meyer said. "It is pretty fast and this is the area's first big meet of the season. Several of the top teams in the south region will be there and it will be a test to see exactly where we are."

The Mocs opened the season at the annual Tennessee Cross Country Invitational on August 30.

"This will be the first meet for several of our returners as we integrate them with our underclassmen and get a feel for our true team," Meyer said.Â
Â
The men's 8-kilometer race begins at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time. Huntsville is located in Central time. The women's 5K is set for one hour after the start of the men's race. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

The forecast for Friday morning is thunderstorms and rain by race time.

"This course drains well and does not hold water so it should remain pretty fast."
Â
The race is comprised of 53 women's teams and 58 men's teams. Live scoring and video streaming are available online at GoMocs.com. Results will be available online at GoMocs.com following the conclusion of the race.
