Postgame Quotes
Sep. 12 – at Eastern Kentucky – Roy Kidd Stadium
Coach Rusty Wright, 8th season
On getting the team to execute better
I mean, we don't have a whole lot of room to make mistakes, but that's the thing; we just got to coach them up better and get them to understand it a little more.
On giving up the 96-yard rushing touchdown to EKU
We can't let somebody take it for 96. I mean, on a blitz, we've run for three years. That was probably the most disheartening play of the whole game for me. You know we can't do those things.
On where the offense is at
We got to keep trying to find creative ways to move people around and get them open, and they gotta get open to; they gotta get off the line of scrimmage and do those things as well. I knew it would be hard. This bunch (EKU) was a whole lot better than 0-2, right? I mean, I tried to tell everybody that, and I knew it would be hard coming up here to play and do that.
On the performance of DJ Adams
He has played better the last three weeks, and he keeps playing better, but you better pick those balls off. He's got to continue to play well and play better, and be a good player over there. And we understand what we're trying to do defensively, which helps a bunch. And I think those kids understand the game plan or have understood the game plan every week.
Zion Rutledge, LB
On the lightning delay pausing the Mocs' momentum
It was definitely a stroke of bad luck right there. It is what it is. You gotta learn how to, you know, get back and keep playing, you know, no matter what the situation is.
On what he has learned about this team during non-conference play
We'll fight; we're a group of guys that'll fight. I think you can accomplish anything, so that's what I learned about this team. We just got to figure some things out.
Kevin Lalin, RB
On taking a heavy load of carries so far this season
Whatever my team needs me to do, I'm going to try to do the best I can.
On surpassing 2500 rushing yards and 3000 all-purpose yards for his career
It's been fun as well, but I try not to look at the stats. I just try to go out there and have fun. Football's a game that I love, and I love going out there with my brothers.
Ashton Schumann, WR
On surpassing 150 career receptions and 2000 career yards for his career
Just hitting that milestone means a lot to me. I could not have done it without my teammates, you know, without the whole line blocking and the quarterback throwing it. Also without the running backs in pass pro, and my other receivers. Even the guys in practice, you know? They make me better each and every day.
On ways the offense can improve
'I got a lot of belief in these guys, even myself. I feel like there's always something better we can do. There's always something more that we could do to push us over to get the win, you know? Because what we do is great. I think we just at times we just mess up.
