Soccer Comes Home to Host The Citadel Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga soccer team returns home to host The Citadel Sunday afternoon in the Southern Conference home opener.

CHATTANOOGA vs. THE CITADEL
The Mocs hold a 17-7-1 advantage over the Bulldogs since the two programs first faced off in 2001. Chattanooga is 8-2 against The Citadel over the last 10 meetings with the Bulldogs claiming a 2-1 victory last year in South Carolina.

LAST TIME THEY MET
After a scoreless first half, The Citadel broke open the scoring, connecting on its third shot of the game in the 58^th minute. Chattanooga responded in the 81^st minute with a strike from Paige Thomas, leveling the match with her eighth goal of the season. The Citadel retook the lead three minutes later for the game winner. The Bulldog keeper registered 13 saves in the match. Quinn Johnson and Caroline Richvalsky each had five shots and combined for seven on target while Thomas directed four toward the net.

CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs are 4-1-4 overall and riding a six-game unbeaten streak that includes wins over Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State as well as back-to-back draws in the last two outings. UTC has outscored its opponents 18-9 and holds a 149-59 shots advantage. Quinn Johnson leads the Mocs with 12 points on five goals and two assists. She has the third-most goals in the SoCon standings and is fifth for scoring. Landry Olson and Emma Reeves have seven points each. Reeves has three goals and Olson has a team-best three assists. Addie Taylor started the last two matches in the net. She is 1-0-2 with four saves.

THE CITADEL
The Bulldogs picked up a win over VMI in the season opener Thursday and are 6-1-2 overall. They average 3.11 goals per game (28 goals) and have allowed eight on the season (0.89 per game). Jasiah Pack leads the SoCon with 19 points on a league-leading seven goals and five assists. Samantha Grantham has 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Zoe Santos has started all nine games in the net. She has 35 saves and allowed eight goals.

NEWS AND NOTES
UNBEATEN STREAK EXTENDS TO SIX
With back-to-back ties, the Mocs unbeaten streak extends to six games. It is the Mocs longest unbeaten streak this season and one shy of the longest in program history. The includes wins over Austin Peay (3-0), Eastern Kentucky (2-1) and Morehead State (2-1) along with ties at Lipscomb (2-2), North Alabama (1-1) and Tennessee Tech (1-1). UTC's longest unbeaten streak is seven games set in 2022. It included five wins and two ties.

THOMAS EQUALIZER EXTENDS STREAK
Paige Thomas took a pass from Quinn Johnson and sent a shot to the right side of the net to equalize the Mocs game at Tennessee Tech.

JOHNSON GOALS LEAD MOCS
Quinn Johnson scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season at North Alabama (9/10). She is tied for fourth in the SoCon. She is tied for second in the league with two game winners.

REEVES TALLIES FIRST GAME WINNER
For the second time this season, Emma Reeves was in the right place at the right time. After heading in a goal in the box at Belmont off a free kick, Reeves was stationed at the net, inside the box and had a well-placed shot into the goal for the game winner at Morehead State (9/6). It was her third goal of the season and first game winner of her career.

ADDIE TAYLOR MAKES MOCS DEBUT
Freshman keeper Addie Taylor got a taste of college soccer against Morehead State and came away with her first victory. UTC beat the Eagles 2-1 on the road.

VARINO GOES UNBEATEN IN THREE STARTS
Lilly Kate Varino got her first start in goal at home against Austin Peay (8/23). The Mocs came away with a 3-0 win. After a draw at Lipscomb on Aug. 27, UTC returned to Finley Stadium and picked up a 2-1 win over Eastern Kentucky. Varino is sporting a 2-0-1 unbeaten mark in her first three appearances.

OLSON TAPS IN GAME WINNER
Landry Olson picked up a pass sent across the box from Ayden Wood and snuck her shot into the net between the keeper and the post against Eastern Kentucky for her first game winner.

DUNAHAY STRIKES AGAIN
After scoring her first goal in the first 40 seconds of the second half at Lipscomb (8/27), Savannah Dunahay scored her second goal at the 1:24 mark of the game in the Mocs win over Eastern Kentucky (8/30).
