COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs scored a late equalizer and earned a 1-1 draw against Tennessee Tech in their Southern Conference opener Thursday night at Tech Soccer Field. Chattanooga moved to 4-1-4 overall and 0-0-1 in league play and extended its unbeaten streak to six games, one shy of the program record.

The match was the Golden Eagles debut in the Southern Conference. Tennessee Tech is 3-4-3 overall and 0-0-1 against the league.

"Good response from the group after 1-0 down to find the equalizer," Mocs head coach Gavin McKinney said. "It was another match where we created more chances and controlled more territory, but we need to become more ruthless when we're on top. We're looking forward to being back home on Sunday."

After a scoreless first half, Tennessee Tech broke through in the 70th minute scoring on a corner-kick opportunity, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Mocs continued to press the attack and found the equalizer less than 10 minutes later. Paige Thomas scored her second goal of the season in the 79th minute, knotting the match at 1-1. The goal came just 89 seconds after Thomas re-entered the match.

Chattanooga controlled the flow of play for much of the night, outshooting Tennessee Tech 15-5 and holding a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal while also earning an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. The Mocs finished with a +10 shot differential and generated 12 of their 15 attempts after halftime.

Quinn Johnson led all players with seven shots, including one shot on goal, while Paige Thomas added three shots and scored the equalizer in the 79th minute. In goal, Addie Taylor made two saves on three Tennessee Tech shots on target to help Chattanooga secure the road draw.

This is the third consecutive draw between the two programs and fifth overall.

The Mocs return home Sunday to host The Citadel in the SoCon home opener. Several alumni will be in attendance and recognized at halftime. The match kicks off at 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.
