Postgame Quotes
Sept. 5 – vs. #12 Tennessee Tech
Chattanooga, Tenn. | Finley Stadium
Rusty Wright, Head Coach
Opening statement.
"Yeah, tough, tough night out there. I knew it was going to be. That's a good football team we just played. I knew we were going to have a hard time, but we gave ourselves a chance, we just didn't execute some things to play better. We just couldn't keep anything going. And then when we needed to get them out, we couldn't get them out. So we have to be better. We have to coach them better. We have to figure out how we can execute a little better and get some things done moving forward."
On the offensive production.
"We have to execute at a high level offensively right now. They got a bunch of folks over there at the line of scrimmage that makes it awfully hard. We just have to execute at a very, very, very high level. And that group over there made it really hard. They are really good, but we have to execute better just to have a chance right now. And that's, and it's going to be that way for a little while."
Zion Rutledge, Sr.-LB
On tonight's game plan.
"The biggest thing we were focusing on all week was just stopping the run. Our defense has always been built on toughness and not letting people run the ball. So that was the biggest thing we wanted to focus on coming into this week, really getting pressure on their quarterback and stopping the run."
On the growth from game one to two.
"Absolutely, it's a long season. We have a lot more games to play. You know, that's a good team [TTU]. They are a good team, and, they played well. We gave up some things that we can't give up if we want to be successful moving forward. So as always, you know, we're gonna keep grinding and keep trying to get better."
Journey Wyche, Jr.-RB
On the offensive line's performance.
"Oh, it felt great. I've been waiting to get back out with the guys, really just waiting patiently. Our offensive line is impeccable, too. They're great and its a great five we have up front. They help us, they get stuff moving."
Ky Tayo, Gr.-DT
On the point of emphasis today.
"Yeah, the main thing was just trying to stop the line. Our coaches made that a big emphasis this week. We knew if we could stop the line, then the main goal was to get back to the quarterback."
On the defense and its overall performance.
"Yeah, we had a good week of preparation. Just sticking to details and the opposing scout, seeing their ins and outs and what they do offensively. And so we made that a big emphasis to stop what the things they do well."
